A LOOK AT THE COMPETITION
Aside from the Olympus OM-D E-M1X, which has a 4/3 sensor, the EOS R3 is largely competing with three other cameras. On the one hand, the Sony Alpha 1 (A1) and Nikon Z9 are considered the most advanced cameras among their competitors, with 50.1 and 45.7 MP sensors respectively. However, if we consider the resolution, the EOS R3 should be compared to an Alpha 9 II (A9 II). For action photography, Nikon does not currently offer any lower resolution cameras.
GETTING STARTED WITH THE CANON EOS R3
Canon's first single-piece mirrorless compact features a dual grip and duplicated controls, making it easy to shoot in both landscape and portrait mode.
The ergonomics of the dual grip are very good, especially in its conventional position. It is rather hollowed out and has a distinct recess for the index finger, providing a firm grip. However, we find that the side is angular and lacks comfort, as well as a thumb rest that is not obvious enough, especially when using without a monopod.
The EOS R3 is a little less imposing than the EOS-1D X Mark III, which is a behemoth. On the width, it gains 8 mm, and on the height 25 mm; the depth remains roughly similar. In addition, the weight has been reduced by 20%! If regular SLR users approve of this compactness, the new hybrid will still have a huge body with more than 1 kg displayed on its technical sheet.
