The value lies in moving between those views while exposure and maximum aperture stay consistent.

F2.8, autofocus and optical stabilisation

F2.8 earns its place when a subject is moving and venue light is limited. In an indoor arena, at dusk or during a reception, one extra stop over f/4 can preserve a safer shutter speed or reduce the sensitivity required.
